Does Alfalfa Generate Oxygen?

Large quantities of oxygen are produced from alfalfa, especially alfalfa grown with subsurface drip irrigation.

About 47% of alfalfa dry matter is carbon. Nearly the same amount of oxygen is released into the air as dry matter carbon is fixed in the plant.

Alfalfa is unique in that a large amount of dry matter is created with alfalfa in the long deep roots that can grow 10-15 feet deep, and in the tops which grow to about 3 feet high every 28 days. When tops are approximately 3 feet high they are cut and the cycle repeats.
